DJ/Producer kidkanevil first came to prominence with the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Problems & Solutions’ back in 2007, and has since gone from strength to strength. Described by Bonobo as “like the best moments of RJD2 and Timbaland combined…incredible!” and “a sonic visionary” by iDJ, the kid has earnt the praise and respect of numerous peers and journalists, counting the likes of DJ Shadow and Wire Magazine amongst his fans, and progressives Tokimonsta, Blue Daisy and Illum Sphere amongst his contemporaries.
Now three albums deep his latest offering ‘Basho Basho’ which “deserves to put kidkanevil right up there with Flying Lotus” (Knowledge Magazine) sees him riding into town like a hi-tec hunter-gatherer, spearing, chopping and mixing beats in his own unique style. Both a headphone experience and dancefloor dynamite, it’s an intelligent journey into the creative mind of a truly innovative and experimental producer.
He’s not just a solo artist with a growing catalog though, he’s also a member of the band Stateless, who released their latest offering ‘Matilda’ on Ninja Tune earlier this year. The album’s first single ‘Ariel’ is a genre-jumping, jangly guitar-laden joint that is equal parts head-nodding goodness and groovy psychedelia, with a killer video to boot.
As well Kidkanevil and turns from the residents we’ve got another exciting secret guest making an appearance on the same night. We can’t tell you who it is due to contractual obligations concerning an upcoming Hollywood bio-pic, but rest assured, you’ll be pleased!

For the very first time at The Reading Rooms, the heads behind Boomin’ System and Crayon are being put together for a very special collaborative performance. The residents will be digging deeper into their crates than ever before as the two tribes converge, joining the dots between Boomin’s dependable selection of the freshest hip-hop & the transmissions of everything sub-bass-related at Crayon, creating the perfect conditions for the alliance of Peem, Typewriter and Fubby to control the dancefloor as one unstoppable force.
DJing with videos, all the cool kids are doing it, so Vinyl Matt and DUNC4N thought they’d get in on the act with The Reading Rooms debut of their brand new two hour audio/visual set. After being previewed to a fantastic reception earlier this year at the DJCAD Animation Fundraiser, 4MATT will be unveiling an all-new AV performance, mixing tightly edited videos alongside audio delights from the combined crates, hard-drives and imaginations of both concerned. Expect everything from Chicken Little rapping Sean Price verses to robo-primates pounding the drums along to Aphex Twin beats. For added effect, beer-goggles can be fitted at the bargain price of £1.50 per treatment.
